Founded in 1955 at the suggestion of then U.S. Ambassador to Italy Clare Boothe Luce, The American Women’s Association of Rome (AWAR) is a non-political, non-sectarian and not-for-profit organization. AWAR offers monthly social and cultural activities and the opportunity for service in the community. Our members come from all over the world - 65% from the United States while 35% represent 22 different nationalities. Many members are new to Rome while others live here permanently. Coming from a variety of backgrounds, we are united by a common language, shared interests and friendship. Our volunteers keep the Association operating and opportunities for involvement abound. In fact, participating and volunteering in AWAR offer occasions for personal enrichment and strengthen our connections in the community. Our interactive Resources list connects all of our members and is a unique, exclusive source of ideas and suggestions from within our membership. We invite you to learn much more about us by visiting the pages of our website.
